Making a Little Confession
We have watched too many natural world documentaries without realizing that we could have made one ourselves; the amazing wild landscape doesn't have to be on the distant African continent. It could be right here on our campus!
Ubiquity = Easier Than You Think
From the Pristine Small Ponds and Soil......
Ponds are filled with microorganisms..... if you are careful enough, you could even see some freshwater planktons with naked eyes.
Tips: sure there are many living creatures in the pond but..... They are also quite small and not that easy to find. Amazing planktons tend to stick around plant masses/dirt. Try the water with greenish particles inside, you would get much luck!
.......To Hideous Cracks in the Sink......
Germs, planktons and small bugs also permeate man-made environments. They are mostly hidden from sight, places like a gap between the tiles.
Tips:
- you cann't find them (it's really hard to) WITHIN the campus buildings because the school periodically sanitizes the interiors. Try your luck on hidden parts at the outside.
- apply lab safety rules during your microdiscovery journey. Some creatures you might find are parasitic. :(
